FeedHope for the second time -2013

The artistic contest FeedHope, one year after its first appearance, in the artistic and social matters, seeks to build a deeper relationship between both the creators and the recipients of their creations. In such difficult times in which food, from being basic is made scarce, and hope from being obvious becomes difficult to find, we again appeal to art creators to extend the visual boundaries of food and spectators to welcome and endorse the creation.

The variety in the use of expressive mediums is encouraged this year, and is listed as one of the strengths of the competition organized. An attempt is simply made to,  approach a “spatial orientation” of artistic creation, in order to assess on the one hand, the inspired use of two-dimensional surface in conversation with the food (which may well be in the area without implying the third dimension). While on the other hand, an evaluation shall be made as a separate category the creative opening in three-dimensional space in the form of sculpture, its installation, its environment, etc., with the ‘support’ of course of food stuff.
With the wish to be more open the creative horizons and the souls of people we welcome you to the second art contest FeedHope!

The competition is open to any visual artist (painter, sculptor, graphic artist, photographer, architect, video artist, crafter, iconographer-illustrator, etc.).
The basic material that the artist should work with is foodstuff. This includes in particular packaged foodstuff, so that after the end of the competition they can be given to people who need them. In other words, participants are invited to create an artwork on packaged foodstuff or using packaged foods which will then should be suitable for consumption.
Examples of foodstuff that can be used are
• Canned food
• Dry food (e.g., biscuits, rusks)
• Legumes
• Pasta
• Liquids (oil, honey, wine)
• Baby food powder
• Sweets for children
• Flour, sugar etc.

The food must have a use by date more than 6 months and are to be delivered packed.
The issue is not confined to any particular art form and may include but not limited to:
• Painting, graphic design, or any other form of artistic activity on the food packaging. Any intervention on the packaging, should ensure that the food within will remain intact and suitable for consumption after opening.
• Assemblage or art installation with one or more packaged foods.
• Photographing or video art where one or more foodstuff are illustrated.
• Any other kind of artistic expression where the basic “material” must be packaged foodstuff.
In each case the packaged food (or part thereof) contained in the artwork (either as real objects or as a display) should be able to be given for consumption. This means that several artworks will be ephemeral and necessarily will be “destroyed” when the foodstuff will be required to be consumed.

A. PROJECT CATEGORIES
The projects will be classified into two categories:
• 1. ARTWORKS IN TWO DIMENSIONS
This category includes paintings, graphic design, printmaking, photography, video art, comics, mosaic, two-dimensional surfaces, generally areas with the presence of food, without embodying the third dimension.
• 2. ARTWORKS IN THREE DIMENSIONS
This category includes sculptures, on-site installations or at a different site and general artworks, with the presence of food to enhance the third dimension of the project.

D. WHAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE FILE (or better IN THE BOX) FOR PARTICIPATION
1st CATEGORY
In the first category which includes primarily two-dimensional artworks, the packaged food-item must be prominent in the visual surface with its physical presence. This reinforces the ephemeral nature of the artwork through the dynamics of detachment of the food which will follow the path of offering.
However, in the case of photography and video art the food-item shall be prominent with its visual presence. Packaged foods that the artist would like to provide in the latter, but also the former, should accompany the artwork and the artist may go in a particular direction, without this being meant that they are in breach of the third dimension.
For participants in video-art form:
1) The CD / DVD with the video (maximum duration 15 minutes)
2) An application form in both print form and digital format (CD/DVD)
3) Foodstuff or part of it shown in the video. Foodstuff as stated earlier must be packaged.
For participants in photo art form:
1) A photo printed on cardboard sandwich type. The print must be of good quality and suitable for exhibition. Proposed size A2 or A1..
2) The photo in digital format (CD / DVD). The images must have very good resolution (File type: jpeg. Resolution: 300 dpi)
3) An application form in both print form and digital format (CD/DVD)
4) The foodstuff or part of it “contained” in the project. All foodstuffs must be packaged.
If you participate in any other artwork (painting, graphics, sculpture, printmaking, comics, mosaic, collage, etc.)
1) The very artwork which will be exhibited as such. At the end of the exhibition and award ceremony all packaged foods involved in the artwork will be detach from it so that it can be given to those in need.
2) The application form in both print form and digital format (CD/DVD)
3) One or more pictures of the work in digital format (CD / DVD). The images must have very good resolution (file type: jpeg, resolution: 300 dpi)
2nd CATEGORY
If you participate in a three dimensional artwork that can be sent by mail.
1) The very artwork which will be exhibited as such. At the end of the exhibition and award ceremony all packaged foods involved in the artwork will be detach from it so that it can be given to those in need.
2) The application form in both print form and digital format (CD/DVD)
3) One or more pictures of the artwork in digital format (CD / DVD). The images must have very good resolution (file type: jpeg, resolution: 300 dpi)

If you participate in a three dimensional artwork that cannot be sent by post as such (eg, requires on the spot assembly or is too large)
In this case, the participant should:
– either send to the organizers instructions and clear photographs (to be able to install the work in the exhibition hall by the organizers) and the required materials and food stuff. At the end of the exhibition and award ceremony, all packaged foods shall be removed so that they can be given to those in need, or,
– attend the exhibition area (on a specified date) to install it himself. After the exhibition and the awards the packaged foodstuffs shall be removed so that they can be given to those in need, or,
– send 3 printed photos illustrating the work printed and in digital format ( in CD/DVD). The printing should be of good quality and be suitable for exhibition (recommended size of A2 or A1). In this case, one must also send the packaged foodstuffs or part of them contained in the project.
In addition an application form must be delivered/sent in both print form and digital format (CD/DVD)
Note: As the aim of the organizers is to encourage as many artists as possible and to gather food for people in need, there are no restrictions on artistic expression. Hence combinations of the above categories (for example photograph with an installation) shall be admissible in the 3-Dimensional Category; provided the projects “contain” some packaged foodstuffs.
If an artwork does not meet any of the above categories please contact us at info@decobook.gr in order to give you instructions on how to submit such a project.

Participation with more than one project.
Each participant may be involved in several projects. Each project will be prepared and separate file participation.
